The Department’s Bike Patrol Program serves as a part-time shift assignment and to enhance special event staffing. Bike program members are chosen from each patrol shift.  Bike officers are normally assigned to the downtown corridor to assist with crowd control, alcohol and narcotics violations and property crimes.  Bike patrol officers are able to collaborate with the public on a much more personal level than can be accomplished by the traditional "squad car" officer.  By design, officers riding bikes are more approachable and offer a level of interaction unsurpassed by most other patrol methods.
