Shirley Davis Crime Victim Advocate

These are the services that the Victim Advocate, Shirley B. Davis provides, but they are not limited to the below mentioned.  Shirley has over 20 years experience in varying aspects of the criminal justice system and is the first full time victim advocate for the Gainesville Police Department.  The victim advocate position is funded via VOCA and administrated by the ACOVC Victim's of Crime Act.

Face to face counseling for victims and their families.  
Accompanies and supports victims through the criminal justice process, e.g. testimonies, depositions, hearings, trials, sentencing, etc...
Assists with the application process to the Bureau of Victim Compensation, Attorney General's Office for help in paying for medical bills, lost wages or funeral expenses incurred as a result of the crime.  
The advocate also provides transportation for victims to attend court appearances and other appointments related to the victimization.
The advocate also provides community education, training and consultation.
