In order to serve the needs of the citizens of Gainesville, the Police Department has divided the City into 3 Districts. Each District is sub-divided into sectors and zones. Officers are assigned to zones within these districts on a semi-permanent basis. The red line on the map designates the district boundaries. Click below on a particular zone to find out more information about the personnel assigned to that area of the City.
Introduction to Community Oriented Policing The Gainesville Police Department welcomes the citizens of Gainesville to Community Oriented Policing (COP). Community policing involves building a community-based partnership, where the police, the communities they serve, and other agencies band together in mutual trust to address contemporary concerns such as crime, fear of crime, illicit drugs, social and physical disorder, neighborhood decay and the overall quality of life in the community. The goal of community policing is to empower communities, so that they can help make their neighborhoods better, safer and healthier places in which to live and work - and in which to raise the children who are our future. GPD embarked on its biggest challenge by beginning full community oriented policing when we re-organized into two Districts on Monday, July 31, 2000. The Department then re-organized the City again on March 15, 2004 into three Districts. This means that every citizen in Gainesville has officers they can call to help solve problems in their areas. This WEB page provides information regarding the supervisors and officers assigned to each district, sector and zone.
