In 2003 the Gainesville Police Department wrote over 23,000 original reports by hand. Members of the Department also wrote all supplements, arrest affidavits, field contact cards and related forms by hand. This system was very inefficient and required a considerable amount of duplication and wasted time. In January of 2004, the Gainesville Police Department implemented a new Records Management System (RMS). This system was developed and currently maintained by Sungard Open Software Solutions, Inc. of High Point, NC. Every GPD Officer and Police Service Technician is now issued a computer. The reports are typed on the computer in the field and forwarded wirelessly to their supervisor for approval. Once approved, the supervisor wirelessly forwards the report to the records division. This system eliminates a significant amount of duplication and saves our personnel a significant amount of time. The time saved by our personnel is used for Community Policing efforts. |
