The Gainesville Police Department employs a proactive approach to monitoring the sexual offenders and predators who reside within the city of Gainesville. Patrol Officers check on predators every 30 days and offenders every 90 days to verify their address information and to ensure they are complying with their requirements. The Crime Analysis Unit maintains continual contact with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to update our records management system with address changes, as well as to add information regarding new offenders and predators who move into the city of Gainesville.
The Criminal Investigations Division follows up on reports of absconders and obtains warrants on those offenders and predators who have been determined to be absconders. The Criminal Investigations Division also investigates violations of the Sexual Offender and Predator City Ordinance which prohibits offenders and predators who have victimized a child under 16 from living within 2500 feet of a school, day care center, or designated park. In April 2008, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local law enforcement partners unveiled an exciting new addition to the state’s Sexual Offender / Predator Web site – the Florida Offender Alert System
The system allows you to sign up to receive e-mail alert notifications when a registered sexual offender or predator moves to your neighborhood or within a radius of any other designated address. FDLE encourages you to register your home address, as well as locations such as your child’s school, your workplace, and any locations that you and your family frequent. You can also opt to track address changes reported by specific registered offenders or predators.
You can monitor an unlimited number of addresses or offenders/predators. There is no charge.
