Captain Lonnie Scott commands the Professional Standards Bureau. Captain Scott has been with the Gainesville Police Department for 23 years and was promoted to the rank of captain in December 2007. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1984.
Captain Scott has participated in many law enforcement training courses, including the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Course, the Line Supervision Course, Internal Investigations Course and Personnel Matters Course. He has also taken the Advanced Officer Survival Course, Instructor Techniques Course, Human Diversity Instructor Course and Radar Course.
He currently serves on many community boards, as well. These include the City of Gainesville’s EEO Board, the Homeless Coalition Board, Project Turnaround, the Black on Black Crime Task Force, the Deacon Board at Greater Fort Clarke Missionary Baptist Church and the Operation Respect Yourself/Heatwave Board.
Among his greatest achievements, Captain Scott names marrying his wife and raising two smart, well-grounded children, becoming a deacon at Greater Fort Clarke Missionary Baptist Church, graduating from the University of Florida with a Business Finance degree and advancing in his professional career to the rank of Captain.
