Police Reserves

The Gainesville Police Department is augmented by a volunteer unit of sworn police officers known as Police Reserves.  The Police Reserve Unit is a service organization to aid and supplement the full-time sworn members of the Gainesville Police Department.  The members of the Unit may be used to provide additional staffing at special events,  the Crime Prevention Unit, the Operations Bureau as backup officers, to take walk-in reports, and/or perform other assignments as needed within the Department.

Members of the Reserve Unit are required to contribute a minimum average of 10 hours of service per month to meet a requirement of serving 120 hours within a 1 year period.  Attending in-service training, special duty assignments (athletic events, concerts, etc.) and job-related court appearances will count toward this requirement on an hour-for-hour basis.

All Reserve Police Officers are required to satisfactorily complete the Departmental Field Training Program before assuming individual law enforcement assignments.  Until that time, Reserve Police Officers are assigned to a full-time sworn officer.

Reserve officers are fully certified law enforcement officers and have successfully completed Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission approved Police Basic Recruit Course.  They may be eligible upon successful completion of a Field Training Program, for a limited solo-officer status.

Applicants for membership in the Gainesville Police Reserve Unit must possess and meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements:
